2.20 Exeter: Local Derby
Chris Gordon’s improving young stayer took his jockey by surprise when trying to jump a path at Fontwell and unseated Freddie Gordon, who was on board the Evens favourite.
He was well backed on the back of a decent win the time before at Wincanton, where he beat Watchoutitscookie by a comfortable two lengths, and is only couple of pounds better off.
Local Derby is the most progressive of the pair and will be most suited by this stiffer track and the half mile further longer trip. He won an Irish point to point and could well improve as a stayer barring further mishaps.
2.55 Exeter: Madajovy
Madajovy has improved since Dan Skelton switched the Getaway gelding to handicaps after three unplaced runs in novices over two miles last autumn.
He has been upped in trip for the handicap runs and is clearly better suited to a test, finishing runner-up both times.
Harry Skelton is back on board and cheekpieces are persevered with, so everything looks set for a strong run.
He is a 2lb higher than last time but if he continues the gradual improvement then a win beckons.
4.22 Wetherby: Into The Park
Into The Park let me down when I put him up at Catterick last time and there are question marks about his enthusiasm.
However, there a several reasons to give him one last chance. Into The Park has never run in this low a grade of handicap before and has run creditably, including recently at a much higher grade.
Hobbs and Johnson are also equipping him in blinkers for the first time, which might be just what the gelding needs.
They have also engaged Callum Pritchard, who still claims 3lb. Hopefully, all these factors can add up to a win.
