Racing TV presenter Angus McNae marks your card for the racing action in Ireland on Sunday, live on Racing TV.
This horse has only had two runs this year and arrives here fresher than most. He won easily here last time out where he made all and looked to be on good terms with himself.
This is a tougher task, particularly with Petit Mouchoir in the field, but he had a hard race when second in the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, and I would prefer to be with the fresher Bapaume.
The selection stays further than the trip he encounters here, so I expect another front-running performance from him at a track that clearly suits.
This useful hurdler is having his second start over fences and is open to plenty of improvement in this sphere. On his chase debut at Leopardstown, he jumped well in the main, but looked as if the two-mile trip was too sharp for him. He also showed on a number of occasions over hurdles that he looked as if two and a half miles would really suit him.
The step up to that trip here is ideal, and he makes plenty of appeal in a race with little strength in depth. Jordan Gainford taking 7lb off is also an added bonus and The Very Man should be backed with confidence.
This lightly-raced mare is definitely on the up having won her last two starts. Last time out she won the Listed Apple’s Jade Mares Novice Hurdle at Navan, despite still looking a bit raw and inexperienced.
She made a number of mistakes, but still managed to comfortably defeat the useful Global Equity. She is an enthusiastic type who will probably make the running here and could take a good deal of catching, especially if she has brushed up her jumping.
It is also never a bad thing to support a progressive type ridden by Rachel Blackmore and trained by Henry De Bromhead.
This gelding is a Grade One performer in disguise, and easily won a Grade Three at Thurles last time by 13 lengths. He impressed with the way he travelled there, and his jockey Jack Kennedy was motionless for much of the race.
That win came over two miles and five furlongs, and the step up in trip from two miles seemed to really suit him. He is related to some useful stayers and a strongly run two and a half miles here will really suit this progressive type who should win this before going on to better things.
