I haven’t been with Night Jet in the past, so I’ve been spared the frustration of backing this long- time maiden and hopefully I’ve got on board in a race where he has a very clear chance.
The only other horse apart from Night Jet to have placed last time did so 560 days ago, so while Night Jet is modest he has plenty going for him in this company.
Tom Symond’s eight-year-old has been placed the last twice over the minimum trip, finishing second last time in a race where the winner and an unplaced horse have won since so the form looks decent.
Night Jet’s dam won over this trip, so it is perhaps surprising he has largely been campaigned over two miles of late.
2.15 Chepstow: LANESBOROUGH
He has more to offer.
Lanesborough left it too late last time - it is very difficult to make up ground in the final stages at
with the downhill finish suiting those in front – but he was only beaten a head at the line and that was his first run in a handicap. Connections obviously felt he was well in as he went off at 11/4, having been big prices when well beaten in three previous starts.
Lanesborough is related to horses who stay very well so he will clearly be better suited by the extra four furlongs here, while despite going by 2lb for defeat he probably would have gone up further had he got up last time.
Trainer Ben Pauling remains in very good form.
3.17 Chepstow: JO LESCRIBAA
I reckon Jo Lescribaa has an excellent chance of following up at a track that will suit his running style very well.
Jockey
excelled at Cheltenham last weekend and he did well on Jo Lescribaa at
last time. Even though he had been headed, Deutsch got the six-year-old back up to win by a neck in a race where the front two were well clear of the rest and the margin didn’t reflect his superiority.
I am very confident that Deutsch will judge the pace of a three-mile race every time I back him in one, and although Jo Lescribaa has a 6lb rise to contend now I hope both can come out on top again.
