Our resident website tipster Dave Nevison fancies one to bounce back on turf and another down in grade on the all-weather among three tips for Thursday. Enjoy action from Salisbury, Clonmel, Bellewstown, and Chelmsford City live on Racing TV.
4.50 Salisbury: BERKSHIRE SUNDANCE
Berkshire Sundance never made it out of the stalls when he made his recent reappearance and that was hardly encouraging, but he will not have that issue here and that could well be a reason he has been entered at Salisbury.
It is interesting that he went off at just 9/2 for that race, so he was clearly felt to be fit and ready after a year off the track.
A lightly-raced four-year-old, Berkshire Sundance has already shown that he acts well enough on heavy ground and he will be suited by this stiffest of tracks, so it is definitely possible that he has more room for improvement than most of his rivals here.
8.00 Chelmsford: CHIPS AND RICE
The five-year-old is a very interesting runner now that she is dropped back down to the 0-70 bracket for the first time this season.
Chips And Rice hasn’t scored this term yet has been placed on many occasions in stronger races than this one, while all three of her career victories have all come when running at this level.
She is currently rated 72 – the same mark from which she scored at Brighton for her latest win in July of last season – and this trip of 10 furlongs is her ideal distance. The application of a visor for the first time looks a positive, too.
8.30 Chelmsford: MOKAATIL
Trainer
has done a brilliant job of keeping this nine-year-old sprinter enthused enough to land a hat-trick of handicaps this season and it is definitely possible he can land another one by the end of the year.
Mokaatil has fallen a long way from his peak – he landed the “Dash” at
three seasons ago - but he has scored twice under Millie Wonnacott already this year and clearly gets on well with the young apprentice.
He ran perfectly well without the tongue tie at
last time so the fact that it is left off again is no concern and, given that there is plenty of forecast pace, it will be disappointing if Mokaatil doesn’t run a good race.
