Horse racing tips: Dave Nevison's three best bets for Chelmsford on Thursday

A well-backed winner got us off to a flying start and lifted my mood on Wednesday, but two decent-priced seconds, who were beaten in the last stride, soon put paid to that.

They can add to the six seconds I selected in my tipping columns last week! The clincher though was when Friday’s card at Huntingdon got abandoned on Thursday, just after I had found three good things and was about to send in the copy to

I am now just about to head off to Chelmsford for a punditry shift on the channel and, with the way things are going, I am fully expecting the car to breakdown en route!

Hopefully these three may raise the spirits a little. Best of luck, and don’t forget to tune into Chelmsford on Racing TV this evening where I will be joined by Chris Dixon.

6.30 Chelmsford: Dawn View at a general 13-2

Dawn View is a maiden and has been dropping down the handicap for a while now, though has not been running too badly.

I am taking the view that this filly might have been under the same cloud as the vast majority of Stuart Williams’ team were throughout 2020.

Things seem to have finally turned and I am taking the booking of talented apprentice, Marco Ghiani, as an extra 3lb advantage.

I am hopeful of a good run from Dawn View over a trip that could suit, and she is available to back at a general 13-2.

7.00 Chelmsford: Brunel Charm at a general 3-1

I am slightly disappointed in the price, but this is another who has declined in the handicap while having valid excuses.

He does look as though he is best over 7f and is drawn well enough to get the lead from stall four. If the first-time blinkers also sharpen him up, they may make the difference in a race where it is hard to see an edge with many contenders.

8.00 Chelmsford: Arij at a general 6-4

Looks to be an improver and is the best of the favourites this evening, despite several chalked up at shorter for earlier races on the card.

He battled on really well to dead-heat on his penultimate start and he can be forgiven his effort last time as he missed the break plus failed to get the lead.

He doesn’t have a competitor for the lead here and can make all.
