Our tipster Dave Nevison has put up Martha Brae (15/8), Broadway Joe (7/4) and Raasel (5/6) in recent days and shares his three best bets for Thursday’s action. Enjoy live coverage from Newbury, Ludlow, Thurles, Chelmsford and Meydan live on Racing TV and Racing TV Extra.
Monarchofthegrange has been a disappointment so far, but I’m counting on a strong pace which seems certain to bring out the best in him.
He has shown bits of form that suggest he is much better than this mark (including in handicaps) and he could surprise if he gets the race run to suit and is in the right frame of mind after a break.
His trainer is in good form currently and has definitely been giving rider Eddie Edge some good support recently. Edge has ridden several places for the yard and, with the maximum 10lb claim, will definitely get a win soon.
I feel Monarchofthegrange is worth chancing for a place at least.
He might well have won the Silver Trophy at Chepstow on his reappearance if he had got going sooner, and he went into just about everyone’s notebook after an impressive finishing effort where he made up tons of ground on that short run-in.
The handicapper was obviously impressed - putting him up 5lb in defeat - but Didtheyleaveuoutto still looks well handicapped.
This step-up in trip on a big galloping track like Newbury looks ideal on that run and, though he has not won for a long time over hurdles, he won on the Flat in the summer. Niall Houlihan claims 5lb again.
This is a really competitive handicap chase with several unknown factors, but Dublin Four has two angles that I always regard as positives.
This first run for Fergal O’Brien is high on my list of plus factors, while I have always upwardly rated chasers who manage to win at Newbury - especially when they come back to the track.
Dublin Four won nicely here last March and looks a good prospect. Though he didn’t follow up that run when sent up to Ayr in April, I am hoping a summer off will have done him good.
