Dave Nevison has three fancies for Thursday's racing action at Beverley which will be shown live on Racing TV. Arnold won this contest in 2018 but winning has proved elusive for him since, despite several good efforts.
His tendency to keen early on and find himself in a difficult position at the business end of races makes him a very frustrating customer.
However, he is in pretty good form and has been dropped 2lb to a very winnable mark here. He is now 8lb lower than when he won this race and has won here twice plus wouldn’t be the first similar character to reserve his best for this track.
Ann Duffield had a couple of sprint handicappers win last week and has her modest team in good form. This race also looks set to be run at a very good pace, which should suit him well.
I am hoping the sheer number of runners in this competitive, albeit low grade, staying handicap ensure it will be run at a stronger pace than the one Wynford ran in last time.
He needs to start better, too, but he travelled extremely well and went past his rivals very easily before he didn’t quite have the necessary gears to get past one who had an easy time out in front.
He had previously won comfortably under Kevin Stott and it is certainly no bad thing he is back on board here. Off the same mark as last time, the selection can get his head back in front.
This six-year-old showed enough on his reappearance and first run for John Mackie to suggest he could pop up at a price when dropped back in trip.
That race was over 10f and he was a bit rusty leaving the stalls but travelled okay in behind and momentarily looked set to mount a challenge before fading out of contention.
He didn’t go as well on his latest start but is down in trip here and has been dropped 6lb for his two efforts this season, which puts him on a mark 16lb lower than his latest win.
His trainer is in terrific form and has had three winners from his past five runners so, at big odds, he looks worth a chance to run well in what is a modest event.
