After 11-10 and 10-3 winners in his first two columns of the week, our pundit and resident website tipster Dave Nevison thinks three runners are worth a second look at Ayr on Thursday. Enjoy more action from Exeter, Tramore, Chelmsford and The Curragh live on Racing TV.
He might be one to be with until the end of the turf season.
Frankendael did me a solid favour at Beverley last time when he was backed right in to a very short-priced favourite on stable debut for Ed Bethell and the four-year-old looks to have settled in very well judging by that comfortable victory, which came under similarly heavy conditions.
He has gone up just 4lb for that win and still remains lower in the handicap than when he started this season. This is an apprentice-only race and if Frankendael were to win this he would run unpenalized until Friday week, which looks like it could be a plan.
He let a very well handicapped horse get first run on him last time but he still finished a very good second and continues in excellent form.
JKR Cobbler rattled up a hat trick earlier in the season and obviously shot up the weights as a result but his performances recently don’t suggest that this new mark is beyond him, but more just the case that he is more likely to come up against lightly-raced progressive types at this level.
He may have got lucky here and looks to have a field of exposed rivals to beat and, with no problems with trip, track or going, he looks very solid.
He has certainly been given a chance here.
Zumaaty has been knocking on the door on his latest three starts with narrow defeat off the same mark each time, but the handicapper has relented by just 1lb and given the margin of recent defeats that just may be enough to tip the scales in his favour.
Zumaaty is another who runs regularly and goes well at this track and another representing Iain Jardine, who is ending the season in very good form.
