Grand National contender One For Arthur excites Peter Scudamore

Peter Scudamore feels One For Arthur has a lot of attributes which would make him a contender for the Randox Health Grand National.The Lucinda Russell-trained eight-year-old ran out a six-length winner of the Classic Chase at Warwick on Saturday.Having already proved his aptitude for the National fences, when beaten just three lengths in the Becher Chase, One For Arthur appears to have plenty going for him.Eight-times champion jockey Scudamore is Russell's partner and assistant, while his son Tom will also be heading to Aintree with high hopes on David Pipe's Becher winner Vieux Lion Rouge. Scudamore said of One For Arthur:"He'll clearly get the trip. He's a good jumper and has been around the course (Aintree) before. "If conditions were suitable he'd have to take his chance. "I was slightly surprised he won as easily as he did at Warwick because it looked a competitive race. "At halfway, it looked like he had too much to do so I was pleasantly surprised he won like he did."He's a good jumper, has lots of stamina and the pleasing thing is he is still only eight."I'd imagine the betting for the National will all change when the weights come out but at least he should get in now."He'll probably go up to around 145 after that and for the last few years that has been enough to get in."I don't think he'll run again beforehand but we'll have a word with the handicapper just in case he thinks he might need to go up any more."What with Tom likely to be on Vieux Lion Rouge it will be an interesting battle."
