It looks an excellent card at Goodwood on Thursday, although a very tricky one to me with no all-aged handicaps on the afternoon.
I am very hopeful Hollie Doyle will have a good day, but it may be a long one if my bet in the first doesn’t land.
He has a lot going for him here.
After three progressive runs as a two-year-old and a gelding operation over the winter, Vee Sight was clearly much expected on his reappearance in a good handicap at Sandown. He didn’t let his supporters down and won in good style, looking very much like a horse to stick with. He was clearly exceptionally well-handicapped off 74 and I believe it’s very likely he still is off 82.
Hollie Doyle is obviously an excellent booking to ride off a low weight and the step-up in trip by a furlong will certainly suit a horse who is closely related to stayers. He looks to have been kept for this meeting by Ralph Beckett and a good run looks assured in an excellent handicap.
At The Double looks the afternoon’s handicap ‘good thing’ - despite having some in-form older stayers to beat.
It is probably the most well-trodden path in racing for a Sir Mark Prescott horse to reappear after three very quick runs at massive odds at the back-end of a two-year-old campaign to then go off at a very short price next time when stepped up in trip off a plater’s mark.
The plan backfired when At The Double turned up at Wolverhampton and nearly lost his jockey after stumbling early in the race, eventually finishing tailed off. It was a different story last time however when he bolted up in a small field at Salisbury, looking a typical well-rehearsed Prescott project. He should follow up.
He’s on a roll – and looks to have a good chance of extending his winning run to four in this sizzling sprint handicap.
Dusky Prince hit form in the middle of June off a mark of 69 when his headgear was switched to blinkers and he is still running off 84, which is not a massive rise for a rapidly-improving sprinter in my book and he beat a reliable and in-form older sprinter in Primo’s Comet last time.
Dusky Prince is ideally drawn down the middle and has the perfect ‘in the vanguard’ running style for Goodwood. He looks like he could be another for Hollie Doyle.
