Frontiersman out to scale new heights on sound surface at Deauville

Connections of Frontiersman expect the return to just over a mile and a half to play to his strengths in the Grand Prix de Deauville on Sunday.

This season's Coronation Cup runner-up struggled in soft ground at Newbury a week ago when he could only finish third behind Defoe in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes.

But trainer Charlie Appleby believes this shorter trip and the likelihood of better racing conditions will aid his cause in the Group Two at Deauville.

He told www.godolphin.com: "Frontiersman has come out of the race at Newbury well.

"Hopefully, going back on a sound surface and back to around a mile and a half will suit him.

"It was a slow ground at Newbury and I think he might not have seen the trip out that day."

Frontiersman takes on six rivals in France, including last season's winner Savoir Vivre.

Mille Et Mille is a Group One scorer and also runs, while Doha Dream and Garlingari have winning form at this level.

The in-form Tiberian and Travelling Man complete the line-up.
