Friendly Soul makes all under James Doyle in Qatar Prix Vermeille

The John & Thady Gosden-trained Friendly Soul ran her rivals a merry dance in the Group One Qatar Prix Vermeille at Longchamp.
Having chased ghome Diamond Necklace in the Nassau Stakes when last seen, the five-year-old mare was stepping up to a mile and a half for the first time but her jockey James Doyle was able to set a fairly sedate early pace despite the large field.
Though pressured by Composing before halfway, the leader still had a break on the field turning for home, and was able to hold on from the closing fillies and mares as the line came in time.
Sunly was arguably a little unlucky to finish only third, as, having missed the break badly, she encountered traffic problems when first trying to come with a challenge under Colin Keane.
Pink Panthera, who was another doing her best work late on, split the pair in second.
Sparan Nua, who was sent off favourite on the back of her agonising runner-up effort in the Yorkshire Oaks, was out of the places.
