Katie Midwinter's Friday tips: 66-1 pick among six selections

In Doncaster's opening Listed juvenile contest, big-priced outsider Dandyman Dan is one to note at the early 33-1 available.

The Oliver Cole-trained colt is more exposed than many of his rivals but has the benefit of experience in his favour. He placed at this level to subsequent Solario Stakes winner Alfred Wallace at Ascot when last seen, outrunning odds of 66-1 in his final start for David Evans and his previous connections before switching yards, and also featured in a Listed contest won by Where Love Lives earlier in the campaign.

There could be more to come from the Dandy Man colt over this 7f trip and the easier conditions could allow him to become more involved than the market expects. Should some of the main protagonists fail to make a successful step up to this level, Dandyman Dan could take advantage for an in-form yard and may fare better than his price suggests.

Fast Track is another big-priced contender who could be worth considering on the Doncaster card. She has to find further improvement as she's upped into Group Two company, but has been gaining some valuable experience over the minimum trip during her debut campaign, which should hold her in good stead.

On debut at Goodwood in May, the daughter of Blue Point finished third to Pershaada before being only narrowly denied by one of the stars of the season in Senorita Bonita at Nottingham.

More recently, she has finished second to Wild Blossom at Glorious Goodwood, following on from a maiden victory at Beverley, and chased home Angels Lane in a 13-runner Newbury Listed event in her latest start. Although this is a tougher test, she has shown plenty of ability and could still be improving with experience.

At the early 66-1, Fast Track is one to note each-way for Andrew Balding.

Course-and-distance winner Roman Dragon couldn't make a significant impression over 6f here when last seen, but should be suited by the drop back to 5f and has plenty of valuable experience at the unique track in his favour.

The seven-year-old gelding is a classy performer on his day and is currently 1lb lower than his last winning mark when successful in a higher class handicap at Chester's May Festival earlier this term. 

Trained by Hugo Palmer, Roman Dragon has lacked consistency since his latest success but has dropped in the weights as a result, and, in favourable conditions in familiar surroundings, should be able to give a good account of himself in this contest under David Probert.

Bidding to make it seventh time lucky, the return to handicap company could allow Cilician to finally get off the mark under Billy Loughnane. He has shown good form during his career to date but has often bumped into one, finishing second to The Ginger Kid on Nottingham debut, achieving the same finishing position behind Collateral Damage at Sandown, and only narrowly denied by Fuel The Jet when ahead of Rafe's Da Man at Newbury.

Fourth in a Sandown maiden when last seen, things didn't pan out favourably for the son of Blackbeard in his latest start, but he appears well-treated from a mark of 84 at his best and remains open to further improvement at this early stage in his career.

It could be worth keeping the faith in Cilician, who has caught the eye on a number of occasions and for whom a first career victory shouldn't be too far in the future.

Likeable veteran The Little Yank recorded his first win over obstacles at this track when landing a novice hurdle here over five years ago during July 2021. He has been seen plenty since and makes his 110th career start in this chasing handicap, bidding for a ninth success.

Trained by John Patrick Ryan, the experienced 11-year-old proved he still retains plenty of ability when returning to form during the summer finishing third at odds of 28-1 in a Kilbeggan handicap hurdle.

He matched that position when back over fences in his subsequent run and, although he hasn't been able to land a blow in his latest couple of starts, could fare better from a lower mark of 86 back over the larger obstacles under 7lb claiming John Aherne.

From a mark of 100 under 4lb claimer Danny Power, Stoneyford Lady makes appeal at the weights following a creditable fourth in a 20-runner Galway handicap when last seen. Her mark is unchanged and she could still have further improvement to come, only 3lb higher than her sole career win in a Thurles handicap last term, still lightly-raced in her eighth chase start.

A half-sister to former Champion Chase winner Captain Guinness, the seven-year-old mare is well-related and could prove better than her current rating in time. She has been running well in her latest outings and could make her presence felt in this field for Henry de Bromhead.
