Friday tips: Dave Nevison likes three at Goodwood

In just four runs to date, Venetia has confirmed herself a front-runner and she was seen to really good effect on her reappearance and handicap debut at Ascot earlier this month.

She has been raised just 4lb for that win and, given she has improved with each of her runs so far and her dam achieved a Timeform rating of 108, it looks as though the Ralph Beckett will likely take that raise in her stride.

Venetia has landed in a race that looks as though she won’t struggle to get on the lead and will be able to dictate unpressurised. She is against older fillies today, but off bottom weight due to weight for age allowances and a high-class lightweight jockey in Edward Greatrex, her chance here is obvious.

The step up in trip to 12 furlongs looks set to suit very well.

A line needs to be put through Crimson Spirit’s latest run when wide and behind at Chester. However, he signalled on his reappearance when third in a big field handicap at the Craven meeting that he was back in the form he showed when winning three on the bounce in early summer last year.

He is back to a mark he has run well off recently and only 3lb higher than his latest win and will be fine on the prevailing easier ground. The Kubler’s are in pretty good form and a good run looks very likely in an extra place handicap.

Seven Questions has been a disappointment since he won a Group Three on his reappearance in 2024, but he looks now to have arrived at a handicap mark that he is capable of winning again.

He is 1lb lower than his last handicap win, but has run well including recently off higher marks. It seems likely Jamie Spencer has had the choice of the Fitri Hey-owned pair and he looks to have a good draw following the pacesetter drawn inside of him.

The removal of headgear could well be an interesting move and this certainly looks an opportunity to end his losing run.
