Five horses to follow at York on Wednesday

Five horses to follow at York on Wednesday

By Harry Allwood
Last Updated: Tue 12 May 2026
Dave Nevison, Andy Stephens (RaceiQ), Danny Archer, Alex Scott and Harry Allwood share selections for day one of the 2026 Dante Festival on Wednesday, all live on Racing TV.

2.20 York: Klassleader

Tipster: Danny Archer.
Best odds: 5-2.
This four-year-old caught the eye when second behind Sing Us A Song over 1m6f at Haydock on his final start last season.
He drops back down to 1m4f on Wednesday, which should suit, and he makes appeal in Wednesday's Sky Bet Race To The Ebor Jorvik Handicap for the in-form William Haggas team.

2.55 York: Binhareer

Tipster: RaceiQ nap of the day (Andy Stephens).
Best odds: 11-2.
Finishing Speed Percentage form: 12231 (past 5 starts)
Final furlong at York: 12.45sec (next highest 12.75sec)
William Haggas strike rate at York in past year: 28.89% (13 from 45)
Binhareer signed off last season with an emphatic victory over course and distance and can pick up where he left off. He was only 16th after a furlong that day, but then reeled off five successive fast furlongs to breeze clear.
The grey was the first three-year-old to win that contest in 14 years, and did so with bags to spare. Tom Marquand said afterwads how much the colt had matured and strengthened through the year.
He’s gone up 10lb in the ratings but should do even better as a four-year-old and has a favourable single-figure draw. The front-runners drawn in stalls 2, 3, 4 and 7 can tee things up for him.
Binhareer is entered in next month's Group One Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and the sprinting division is crying out for new faces. Be365 make him 13-2 for Wednesday's race and offer six places, while he's 66-1 to strike at the highest level about a month from now.

4.05 York: Felicitas

Tipster: Alex Scott.
Best odds: 3-1.
Ed Walker’s daughter of Teofilo has done nothing wrong in two starts so far and the early 11-4 makes appeal against a group of fillies with questions to answer in the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes.
A cosy two and a half-length winner on debut over a mile in December (the runner-up has since finished second again behind high-class prospect I’m The One), she then improved for the step up to a mile and a quarter in a Sandown novice last month, scoring by three lengths.
This was a much deeper race, yet she still won readily under a penalty on what was her turf debut, and she still showed some small signs of greenness. There could well be significant improvement to come, particularly over this slightly longer trip on a galloping track.
She has work to do on ratings - Legacy Link and Moments Of Joy have a deeper CV at this stage, but the former has not been seen for seven months, and the latter was comfortably beaten last time and has a bit to prove. Felicitas can continue her progression and land this key Oaks trial.

4.40 York: First Legion

Tipster: Harry Allwood.
Best odds: 11-1 (each-way).
This 500,000gns breeze-up purchase was a big eye-catcher at last year's Sky Bet Ebor Festival at York where he was continuously denied a clear run in the final two furlongs. He was highly tried prior to that having contested Listed and Group contests (which was no surprise, given his lofty reputation) and he also scored on debut at York in a class 2 event.
Richard Hannon's charge was not seen to best effect on his final two starts last year, and looked ring rusty on his return to action at Newmarket in April before faring better last time out.
He remains on an attractive rating (90) based on his best form from last year, and his breeding suggests he will relish seven furlongs, despite being campaigned over five and six furlongs last term.
Given his liking for this track, it would be no surprise if this meeting has been his early-season aim, and he holds each-way claims in a wide-open handicap.

5.15 York: Master Builder

Tipster: Dave Nevison.
Best odds: 17-2.
David Menuisier has his string in very good form and had a well-backed third in a very strong Ascot handicap last weekend.
This could be the best time to catch Master Builder as he ran a very good race on his reappearance last season in a much higher grade Epsom handicap.
He has run two of his very best races at this track, including when placed in the Melrose at the Ebor meeting in 2024.
I feel as though he can still be equally well suited by today’s shorter trip and the booking of Rossa Ryan for the first time is no negative. He's my nap of the day on Wednesday.
