Friday tips from Dave Nevison: bets at Doncaster and Salisbury

Top tipster Dave Nevison has a selection at Salisbury on Friday, live on Racing TV, as well as a couple at Doncaster on day two of the St Leger meeting.

3.35 Doncaster: Silver Lake

Silver Lake has obvious claims, but the positives stack up so completely that the William Haggas-trained filly has to be the selection for me here.
I watched her price contract to 11-10 ahead of a very competitive event at the Sky Bet Ebor Festival with amazement, and she only managed to win by a narrow margin, to the relief of her backers.
However, the winning margin doesn’t tell the whole story as the three-year-old had a terrible run through, and Saffie Osborne had to be at her best to get her home.
The selection is well worth the 6lb the handicapper has raised her and she could, in fact, still be very well handicapped.
That contest was run on easy ground, so she will handle these conditions well and, given the amount of stamina in her pedigree, she might well improve considerably for an extra two furlongs here.
The only downside is that she will be favourite, but it is difficult to select any of her rivals to beat her.

4.16 Salisbury: White Ladder

White Ladder has been given a break after failing to back up a good start since joining the John Ryan yard last time out.
Hopefully, he was just turned out a bit too quickly, and needed a break, and can bounce back here.
He performed well when third at Salisbury on his debut for the yard in May, but definitely faded in the last half furlong, and I think he will be well suited by racing over six furlongs here.
The pace horses are drawn either side of him, and he should therefore get a good lead into a strongly-run race.

5.20 Doncaster: Almakeram

Sir Mark Prescott’s gelding is his own worst enemy as he often pulls hard, and refuses to settle, plus hasn’t won the races he might have done for that reason.
The decision to drop him out the back last time out at Epsom was the right one, but it didn’t quite work out as he ended up having too much to do once he got going.
However, he is in what is likely to be a strongly-run contest in a big field at Doncaster, and I think the track might be much better suited to a contender like him.
His trainer is in typically good form for this time of year, and I look forward to seeing the inimitable Luke Morris steering him through the pack.
