Our betting expert marks your card for the action at Haydock and Newmarket, which are among six meetings on Racing TV.
6.15 Haydock: Vaynor
Vaynor disappointed last time out, but a slow-run race over ten furlongs was of no use to him.
He had previously looked to be building up to something and I am hoping the run was to enable young James Hills to get acquainted with the five-year-old, who is trained by his father.
Vaynor has a good record over distances of more than 1½ miles, including three wins over Friday’s trip, so will be much better suited by this.
He has dropped to a mark 11lb lower than he won off last season and his inexperienced rider could get off the mark on just his second ride in public.
7.05 Newmarket: Dashing Dick
Won this race two years ago and finished runner up in last year’s renewal, so he clearly has this event firmly in his calendar.
He arrives here in good form, having been placed on his past two runs. The seven-year-old is off a 1lb lower mark than he was in last season’s race and there is also the prospect of him getting an easyish lead.
If he gets a solo at this track, he should be able to conserve energy for the finish.
8.30 Haydock: Rascal Recknell
There are quite a few runners who are in good form for this competitive 7f handicap but Rascal Recknell clicked on his first run for Mick Appleby and may have more potential upside than his rivals.
He only won a maiden for his previous yard but ran well off a mark of 80 before his form tailed off.
He had dropped to a mark of 68 for his Doncaster victory and has only been raised 2lb, which looks lenient given the second and third won on their next start.
He has the back form and is clearly still well in, so might be another money spinner for his excellent trainer.
