Dave Nevison, Martin Dixon, Andy Stephens and Johnny Ward share selections for the action across Down Royal, Wetherby and Newmarket on Saturday! Watch every meeting live on Racing TV, and click here for more top tips.
2.10 Down Royal: Clonmeen
Tipster: Johnny Ward.
2.40 Down Royal: Spillane's Tower
Tipster: Andy Stephens.
Best odds: 5-2.
Envoi Allen’s record here speaks for itself but, rising 12, he could be vulnerable to younger legs. I’m surprised he is preferred at the top of the betting to Spillane's Tower and can only assume that is partly down to the latter’s participation being in doubt earlier in the week.
His efforts as a novice, coupled with his fine comeback run in the John Durkan last season, make him the one to beat. Found A Fifty should also be in the thick of the action if his stamina holds out.
2.50 Newmarket: Spring Bloom
Tipster: Dave Nevison.
Best odds: 7-2.
Spring Bloom generally goes well on the Rowley Mile and ran arguably his best race this season when fourth over the minimum trip here in May. He prefers six furlongs, though, and ran well in this contest last year.
He is 6lb lower this year and Jack Callan, who has done well on him recently, claims a useful 5lb. Spring Bloom has also not had the best of luck recently having unseated his rider on his penultimate start, and then lost at least a place after his jockey dropped his reins close home last time out.
That was his first start for Darryll Holland and Spring Bloom was backed into favouritism, so is clearly thought to have settled in well to his new yard, and hopefully he can make it second time lucky for the Holland team here.
2.57 Wetherby: Hewick
Tipster: Andy Stephens.
Best odds: 7-2.
The suggestion at the start of the week was Hewick, when 6-1 with William Hill. His odds have shortened but he still makes plenty of appeal. He looked in good heart when scoring over hurdles last month, seems likely to get the goodish ground he favours plus has no penalty to shoulder.
Djelo has to put a tame end to last season behind him but he has a good record when fresh and he may pose the biggest threat.
3.25 Newmarket: Erzindjan
Tipster: Martin Dixon.
Odds: 14-1 (each-way).
If simply looking at official ratings, you'd give Erzindjan little chance in this Listed contest but he'd be rated higher if he'd had a bit more luck in either of his past two outings.
In the bet365 Cambridgeshire, I thought he was very unlucky because he was on the wrong side of the track as the race played out, and thundered home to be beaten less than two lengths, shaping extremely well.
At York last time out, he met loads of trouble in running and would surely have gone close with a clear run. I think he's absolutely thriving, and with a strong pace forecast here, I'm strong on him each-way at odds of 14-1, at the time of writing.
