1.10 Cheltenham: Come on Teddy
Tipster: Dave Nevison
General odds: 7-2.
Saturday is a big day for Harry Derham as he introduces expensive purchases for the first time, and I believe he may be able to start the ball rolling in style with Come On Teddy who could be very well handicapped for his new yard.
He made a successful chasing debut in a handicap off a rating of 137 following an eight-month break, so there are no doubts about him being able to go well fresh. In fact, it may well be the best time to catch him.
Derham has booked top Irish Amateur Brian O’Neill to ride, so clearly means business, and the selection has dropped down to a mark of 137 for this, so is clearly very well in if the yard switch has rekindled his spark.
1.45 Cheltenham: L'eau Du Sud
Tipster: Harry Allwood.
General odds: 6-5.
Useful hurdler who is held in high regard by the Dan Skelton team and impressed on his chasing debut when returning to action at Stratford in October.
Made one mistake there, but his jumping was good overall and he's a six-year-old with a huge amount of potential over the larger obstacles this season.
He had a progressive profile over hurdles, and with just 12 starts under his belt, he should have further improvement on the horizon.
Dan Skelton has his team in top form and he could prove hard to beat.
2.20 Cheltenham: Il Ridoto
Tipster: Harry Allwood.
General odds: 7-1.
I advised backing
for the Paddy Power Gold Cup, and although his odds have shortened since, I still think he's the one to side with here.
The reasoning remains the same, too, and I expect a factor behind his price contracting is the form of the Paul Nicholls yard. The Ditcheat handler has been operating at a strike-rate of 29 per cent following a quiet start to the season, largely due to his team stripping fitter for an outing, and Il Ridoto looks sure to have improved bundles for his reappearance run.
2.55 Cheltenham: Doyen Quest
Tipster: Dan Overall.
General odds: 2-1.
Dan Overall: Keep This Improver On Side
Watch: Dan Overall makes a case for Doyen Quest
3.30 Cheltenham: Champagne Twist
Tipster: Danny Archer.
General odds: 11-2.
Champagne Twist was last seen finishing ninth at the Grand National meeting at Aintree (when sent off co-favourite), but I think he had excuses that day, and he had impressed at both Doncaster and Sandown.
Off a rating of 131, he remains nicely treated on his return to action and should have improvement left in him.
Ben Pauling and Ben Jones remain in good form, too, which are further positives, and Champagne Twist ran well when runner-up at this track last season.
