Enjazaat returns to winning ways with Trophy honours at Ripon

Enjazaat made the most of a drop in class to claim the Longines Irish Champions Weekend EBF Ripon Champion Two Yrs Old Trophy.

A winner at Yarmouth in June, Enjazaat was not disgraced when sixth in the Group Two July Stakes last time out, but he found this six-furlong Listed heat an easier proposition.

Favourite Lake Volta set out to make all, tacking over to the rail and continuing to lead to the final furlong, when Enjazaat was produced with his run by Jim Crowley.

The Owen Burrows-trained 7-2 shot found plenty for pressure inside the distance, fending off the fast-finishing Tip Two Win by a comfortable two lengths.

Burrows was not at the track as he was viewing yearlings at Doncaster, but was impressed with what he saw on television.

He said: "It was visually very impressive and I'm chuffed he's won.

"He won his maiden at Yarmouth well and while it was a big step up to go for a Group Two at Newmarket, we felt he just didn't pick up as well as he can do there.

"Dropping back to Listed level today, he travelled well and picked up nicely, so I'm pleased with that.

"We could look to step him back up now, there's races like the Mill Reef and Middle Park, but we will just wait and see."

Crowley made it a double aboard Musical Terms, who triumphed as the 4-6 favourite for the Queen and trainer William Haggas in the Follow riponraces On Twitter Maiden Stakes.

The Ripon Rowels Handicap was the other key event of the day in North Yorkshire and that went the way of the Kevin Ryan-trained Brilliant Vanguard (11-4 favourite), who was a two-length winner in the hands of Kevin Stott.
