Dermot Weld saddles Eziyra to Give Thanks glory at Cork

Eziyra ably justified 7-4 favouritism in the Give Thanks Stakes at Cork.
Third in the Irish Oaks on her penultimate start, the daughter of Teofilo looked a different class to her rivals in this Group Three for fillies and mares.
Glamorous Approach made most of the running in the mile-and-a-half contest, with Eziyra nicely positioned in fourth place, but she was swamped inside the final two furlongs.
Runner-up Bloomfield gave chase, and in doing so looked quite a nice filly, but it proved a futile exercise as the Dermot Weld-trained winner skipped two and a half lengths clear in the hands of Pat Smullen.
Weld said: "It was lovely to see Classic form upheld.
"The ground is probably as soft as she wants and that was a little concern I had.
"She came out of the Oaks very well and it was an excellent renewal, as I said at the time, and she has progressed.
"I'll look at a race like the Group Two Prix de Royallieu at Chantilly on Arc weekend, which would be the logical follow-on for her.
"She is physically not the strongest but mentally is very very strong and it was nice coming back that she won a Group race for us."
