Dave Nevison shares his selections for and Kempton on Tuesday, live on Racing TV.
1.50 Newmarket: Dark Thirty
I was unsure whether to make Dark Thirty the selection for this race or Physique, who was a massive eye-catcher behind that rival when they both reappeared at Doncaster in March.
Eventually, I chose the Richard Hannon-trained five-year-old who won this race last year, and is still off a lower mark than he scored off, despite having won last time out plus Ryan Moore is aboard.
Dark Thirty is clearly ideally suited by
and has run his best races at the track. His running style is to go from the front, and that is a real plus at both the Newmarket tracks. I am pretty sure he will adopt a prominent position again, and might well be able to make all.
8.00 Kempton: Al Ameen
Al Ameen is in a rich vein of form, and although he has the widest draw to contend with in stall 12, I believe he should be able to defy a penalty and complete the hat-trick.
Al Ameen won by over five lengths last time out, so there is no way he wouldn’t have won that race with just 5lb more on his back, but the issue here is his likely track position.
The pace looks to be in the middle of the field, with slow starters on the inside, so I think this in-form contender should be able to track the pace, and not be too many horse widths wide.
If he's still in the same form as last week, he should be able to sweep around his rivals and score again.
8.30 Kempton: Caprelo
Caprelo won on his seasonal debut (following a four-month break) during a light campaign last season and with his trainer in decent form with limited recent runners, I don’t expect an even longer absence to be any issue here.
He is going a furlong further than that latest course win but clearly acts well on the track. There is pace drawn middle to high, too, and Caprelo should be able to settle in just behind plus get a decent run through this field to hopefully to record a second course success.
