1.55 Goodwood: Master Builder
David Menuisier did me a huge favour with 8-1 winner Ashariba on Wednesday, so the local trainer has obviously got his string in peak form for this meeting, and
Master Builder may well be up to winning this.
The selection is conclusively proven on very soft ground and has also won over this trip, so there are no question marks there. The slight reservation is his finishing resolve, but his handler has not opted for any headgear, so Menuisier clearly has faith in him.
It could be that he needs a strong, competitive contest to enable him to travel further into the race before committing, and he is a big enough price to bet each-way here. Fingers crossed he can sneak a place, at least.
3.05 Goodwood: Strike Red
This is Strike Red’s chance to win a race such as the Coral Stewards’ Cup, and he has everything in his favour on Saturday.
Richard Fahey’s seasoned campaigner finished sixth in last year’s renewal from a similar draw, but that came on very fast ground, and he has always been much better suited by a softer surface.
He was a major eye-catcher at York last time out when finishing with real purpose on the “wrong” side of the track, and I believe he could easily turn the form around with Elmonjed who hasn’t fared as well with the draw here.
Strike Red’s handicap mark has virtually not moved for 12 months but I really don’t think that is the issue here as circumstances are right for him, and I expect a very good run.
3.45 Goodwood: The Fingal Raven
Jamie Osborne’s consistent gelding probably shouldn’t be a 33-1 chance for this, and I think he is worth chancing each-way. He performed consistently well in Meydan at the beginning of the year, finishing placed three times, including in a Listed event, and was then far too fresh and keen when drawn on the wrong side at Ascot on his return to England.
He returned to form last time out when just over half a length third behind Mubdir at Sandown, and is a couple of pounds better off with that rival here.
Saffie Osborne gets on very well with The Fingal Raven who will be suited by what will definitely be a strongly-run contest.
4.55 Goodwood: Treasure Time
Surprisingly,
Treasure Time is one of just a few in this closing event that look as though they have improvement left in them.
His season has started later than was the plan, but he still ran a very promising race to finish fifth in a hot mile handicap at Sandown on his return plus has been given plenty of time to get over those exertions.
He was desperately unlucky when a beaten favourite at this meeting last year, but would be unfortunate if lightning were to strike twice and ruin his chance of making amends in this.
I fancy this could be the springboard to a very strong second half of the season for Treasure Time.
