Horse racing tips: Dave Nevison's top tips for Tuesday

The Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup is going to be an absolutely fascinating affair and some may be casting the statue of Stradivarius already in anticipation of a fifth straight victory in the race. However, I suspect he won’t even go off favourite if the rains come and Trueshan gets his ground.

Any rain that falls seemingly won’t affect the chances of Migration, who has been given a month off after his solid reappearance after a long absence - so we should neither be concerned about a quick ‘bounce’ which sometimes happens on their second start.

Migration ran very well on soft ground a couple of times as a three-year-old and still looked to be on an upward curve, competing in high-grade 10-furlong handicaps. He was very well backed for his return at Salisbury and showed enough in finishing an unlucky fourth to suggest he may well continue on the upgrade this summer.

He is drawn a little wide, but three of the last six winners had a double-figure draw so I don’t have concerns beyond the luck needed in any big-field Goodwood handicap.

Insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different outcome - and following Proud Archi could very easily be a certifiable condition - but having been with him for his last three runs I will not be chasing losses further if he gets beaten here.

I felt he would be dropped out last time and challenge late from his wide draw, but - maybe because of the change of headgear - he was rushed up around the outside and ended up in from two furlongs out only to fade late in the race. That came on the back of two decidedly unlucky in-running efforts and he can certainly win off this mark if things go well.

Proud Archi is back in cheekpieces and has a single-figure draw in a race certain to be run at a pace. Callum Rodriguez was the last jockey to win on him and is back on board here, so Proud Archi has absolutely everything going for him.

Although drawn widest in 14 last time, Dandy's Angel ended up on the inside of the field but too far back to make any sort of challenge. While disappointing for those of us who backed her, that effort definitely suggested that her turn is near and this race is certainly no stronger.

She hasn’t fared well once again with the draw, but hopefully Sarah Bowen will be aware of what is needed now that she takes over in the saddle and position her mount closer to the action. Dandy's Angel can stay on past a decidedly modest bunch.
