Betting expert Dave Nevison is sweet on a pair running at Catterick and reckons a front-runner will lead his rivals a merry dance at Musselburgh.
2.10 Catterick: Big Cheese
The Ed Bethell-trained three-year-old is never going to live up to his name but has been dropped down to 0-65 company for the first time and should have enough zip to get past this lot.
The handicapper has been reluctant to drop him in the weights after four runs this season, which in truth have only been modest for the most part. However, his runs at Pontefract and Newcastle are strong in terms of this company.
Big Cheese did not seem to stay 2m on heavy ground at Pontefract and the 1m 5f he tackles this time may be his ideal trip. Bethell’s team remain in tremendous form.
2.40 Catterick: Albegone
I went in a little early when predicting a return to form this horse three runs ago.
But I only got it wrong by one start as Albegone has shown himself pretty much back to his best in his two subsequent races.
He won comfortably over course and distance last time and has a 5lb penalty here, bringing his mark up to 62. However, he is still well-in on his old form as he won off 67 when hitting form last spring and backed up that run with three decent efforts off marks in the 70s.
4.00 Musselburgh: How Bizarre
This eight-year-old is in rare form, winning three of his past four races after being dropped to a basement mark.
He is creeping back up the handicap but is way below his highest winning mark and only 4lb higher than when he won last time.
How Bizarre is a habitual front runner and Musselburgh often favours such horses. The excellent Danny Tudhope, who rode him last time, is back on board and that is another huge plus.
