Dave Nevison's free racing tips for Tuesday: The Chosen one

Three runners take my eye at Exeter as being likely to show a bit of improvement, so hopefully we can get the week off to another good start.

12.20 Exeter: Dan’s Chosen

Although his opening mark for a handicap doesn’t look like an absolute bargain, Dan’s Chosen is against some exposed types and might well be able to strike on his first start in this company.

His trainer is having a really good season and young rider Jack Wildman has been hitting the crossbar with several seconds recently, largely when riding for Emma Lavelle. Dan’s Chosen’s pedigree is all about stamina and he could well improve for coming back up to this trip but has run well enough on two of his three chase starts to give him decent claims here.

2.30 Exeter: Morning Spirit

If this race were run at Wincanton, I might be backing Ede’iffs Elton here as he seems to run that track very well. But he has disappointed on his visits to Exeter which may be coincidence, however the fact that Morning Spirit ran and jumped well in a big field event here last time and has only had two runs over fences sways me towards the Jonjo O’Neill runner.

His jockey seemed to be biding his time over the last two fences last time, waiting to time his challenge against the leader and it looked a good move as he got up to finish in front of that horse, only for an outsider of Jeremy Scott’s to take off on the run in and beat them both. Morning Spirit can show himself to be a decent young staying chaser by taking this.

3.05 Exeter: Diamon Des Flos

Having been sent off at mainly big prices in his runs so far and not largely figured, he showed a little bit more when dropped into his first handicap last time, but that was once again over two miles at Taunton and he was clearly outpaced when they quickened turning in.

He has been dropped 3lb since and upped in trip by half-a-mile here, is running at a much stiffer track. It wouldn’t be any surprise at all if he were to show a lot more now. Evan Williams is having an excellent time of things and is certainly not one to rush his team. His patience might be set to be rewarded here.
