There’s an interesting card for those looking for future winners at Kempton on Wednesday evening.

The closing staying handicap is a cracker and will hopefully boost coffers for Cheltenham at the weekend.

12.40 Leicester: Eclair On Line

Finished: PU SP: 7/2

Strikes me as a chaser to follow for a couple of runs as he looks well-handicapped on some of his efforts last term. He was well beaten on his reappearance but shaped well for most of the race and, given the good form of Charlie Longsdon’s yard, I expect him to go on from that run.

He came back from a long absence last season but did well and generally progressed with each run. He is a front-runner but not a tearaway and I expect him to be prominent from the outset. He has fallen once but generally impresses with his jumping. It is difficult to tie down what the going is on the chase course here but it unlikely to be extreme, so should suit him.

3.35 Leicester: Yellowstone Park

Finished: 1stSP: 6/1

This is an interesting handicap hurdle with last year’s winner making his debut and two ex-French runners from hot stables making it very difficult to assess. However, I think this bottom weight is likely to be overlooked in the market and could be worth chancing.

Yellowstone Park is bred to stay well and make a chaser eventually. He was staying on well last time in a 2m novice at Warwick, but hung right and looked as though he will be suited by much further. He has been campaigned to get a handicap mark and starts off a lowly rating of 108 here, and I expect more to be shown. Alex Hales has had a winner and three seconds from very few runners this month.

8.00 Kempton: Imperium

T: Harry & Roger Charlton

Finished: 6thSP: 9/2

This is the best race of the day. Imperium is a standing dish around Kempton, achieving five of his six wins here. I’m sure it would be even more if he had a decent pace to run at in some of his other races.

This is Imperium’s chance to show himself a top performer on this surface as a good pace seems extremely likely. He should come on for his encouraging reappearance after a wind op, where he might have gone close to winning with a stronger gallop.

He has been dropped 1lb, which is a bonus. James Doyle has won on him twice in the past and I will be having a good bet each-way to hopefully boost my tank for Cheltenham at the weekend.
