Dave Nevison's best bets for Cheltenham on Friday

It's Day One of the International Meeting at Cheltenham on Friday and our top tipster, Dave Nevison, has three fancies. Watch all the action live on Racing TV

1.15 Cheltenham: Broomfield Burg at 7-2 with William Hill

Finished: 2ndSP: 5/2

Although beaten at odds on last time suggests a disappointment, it might well be that Broomfield Burg came up against a very good horse in Silent Revolution at Newbury last time and that trying to give him 7lbs was quite a task.

I am certainly surprised he starts handicaps off a mark of 130 after that run, and he seems very likely to improve after just two runs over hurdles. He was backed off the boards at Newbury so had clearly been showing plenty at home. Few of his rivals seem to have his potential upside and, while he will no doubt be a warm order again, I am pretty confident his backers can get their money back here.

2.25 Cheltenham: Court Master at 18-1 with Sky Bet (who offer four places)

Finished: 3rdSP: 12/1

Enrilo might be a good thing here given how well he was travelling when he fell in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury. But he will be a short price and I prefer an each-way punt on Court Master, who is put in as the outsider of the field on the early lists.

It is easy to put a line through the bad runs in his form if you believe this horse has had serious breathing issues and I am happy to be in that camp at the given odds.

He was at his best over 3m over hurdles and, assuming that the recent wind op has worked, I am happy to ignore that he is 5lb out of the handicap here.

His latest run at Newbury, against a horse seriously well-in and plotted up, was a really good effort and was a clear signal the eight-year-old might be back on track. The ground looks ideal for him and his trainer is in excellent form.

3.35 Cheltenham: Onagatheringstorm at a general 5-1

Finished: 5thSP: 9/2

Chased home Sporting John at Th November Meeting but I would think a 4lb pull would be enough to turn around that form.

And given this five-year-old was running in his first handicap on that occasion, further improvement could be on the cards.

Obviously trip and track suit him perfectly well and the Fergal O’Brien/Paddy Brennan combo is one of my favourites anywhere, but especially around Cheltenham.
