It is at the end of June that I tend to focus on the three-year-olds taking on their elders in handicaps and this gelding looks a prime candidate.
Sip And Smile has gradually improved this season, winning three times already and might well get an easy time on the lead (the other front-runner here not in the best form) and, off the same mark as when beaten in a small field last time, he might well just last home.
Although he hasn’t yet won over a mile, he definitely stays this trip well and might have more upside than his rivals.
George Boughey is currently in brilliant form while William Buick is becoming an unstoppable force this season, and the jockey can continue his amazing run with several strong chances on this card.
I can’t remember seeing Buick riding for Mick Easterby (or in a 0-55 handicap) but he is on a horse who returned to form over course and distance last time and doesn’t really have to do much more here.
I backed Refuge a couple of times last season after some promising runs but he never delivered. He was generally running in higher-grade races and actually won in a higher grade last time, so this drop down to the basement level should be easy enough for him.
Robert Law-Eadie is starting to get rides now that he has been taken on by Fergal O’Brien and it looks like his 10lb claim is going to be useful this summer.
Une De La Seniere signalled she was back in form last time when second - beaten less than a length - behind the well-handicapped Jubilympics at Worcester.
She may have benefitted from the return to hurdles and has not raced at this low a grade for a while. Fergal O’Brien is seemingly perennially in form.
