Our resident website tipster Dave Nevison likes the look of a handicap debutant over hurdles among his three fancies for Tuesday's action. On Racing TV, join us for seven live Flat races from Navan.
This conditionals’ event is possibly a strange race to choose in the follow-up bid given that Lleyton carries a penalty having won a similar race last week. Rider Theo Gillard would be able to claim in an open handicap so I am hoping that this boldness reflects the confidence of trainer Justin Landy, who certainly seems to know the time of day.
Lleyton is well-handicapped on old form and was gambled on and finished runner-up off a mark of 103 back in the summer of 2020. If he is back to that sort of form he will have little to fear here.
It is difficult to think she is not well-handicapped from an opening handicap mark of 104.
Dicey Reilly was surprisingly dropped down in trip on the sharpest of tracks for her second appearance over hurdles last time but still managed to run with credit, staying on one-paced up the Wincanton straight. Previously, this stamina-laden mare (dam won over three miles) had run well enough in four bumpers before making a promising hurdles debut over this distance at Ffos Las when getting done for speed and only losing second on the run-in. That runner-up - who was giving Dicey Rielly 7lbs - won off a mark of 112 next time.
Peter Bowen always does well in the spring and summer and had his first winner for a while last week, and with Dicey Rielly in the first-time tongue tie the signs are good here.
Harry Davies didn’t get the blinding start to the season some of us hoped for in the Lincoln last weekend but he is a very promising claimer and his mounts need a close look.
Johnny Reb is usually a consistent 6f/7f handicapper and is now back down to his latest winning mark and back in the grade he last won in. He has clearly had issues recently and only been seen twice for Roger Teal, running too keen on both occasions.
Hopefully the freshness will be out of him after his recent run and, in any case, looks to be in a race here which will be run at a very fast pace. Hopefully his talented young jockey can settle him better and bring him through to score.
