1.55 Bangor: Planned Paradise
Planned Paradise is now 9lb lower than his last winning mark and looks very interesting ridden by Jack Tudor, who is excellent in staying handicaps and has been on board for this horse's last two wins.
Christian Williams is one of the best trainers when it comes to working the handicap system and cannot want this stayer to get much lower, and this might finally be the time to catch him.
The cheekpieces that were tried last time have been discarded (he wasn’t wearing headgear when Tudor won on him twice) and, off a mark of 98, he looks worth chancing.
7.00 Newcastle: Badri
Badri has returned to form in two runs at this track recently and may have ideal circumstances here.
The veteran sprinter is equally effective at either five or six furlongs, but needs a strong pace to excel and will certainly get that here. Badri has met some degree of interference on both his latest starts, but that is a fact of life for a hold-up sprinter.
There is no better rider in these big field sprints than Jason Hart and with a fast pace virtually guaranteed, I feel it could be his chance to gain an overdue victory.
7.30 Newcastle: Advancing
Advancing was beaten at odds-on when trying to follow up his impressive Wolverhampton win on his penultimate start.
There were excuses however, as the race was slowly run and he had to be switched at a crucial point and could definitely have finished a lot closer.
Marco Botti’s four-year-old ran consistently well last season and may still have upside in him for 2026. He looks one to have onside for the first part of this year.
It has looked a smart move dropping him to a mile for his recent starts and another win looks on the cards.
