Dave Nevison marks your card for the final day of the St Leger meeting.
2.30 Doncaster: Pietro
There are a few improvers in this big field three-year-old handicap but
Pietro is the one for me off bottom weight.
He has not been out of the first two on his past four outings and has shown himself to be equally adept at both 6f and 7f.
This likely strong gallop looks set to suit his running style as he settles nicely and he should be able to sit off the pace and Saffie Osborne, who is having an excellent season, should be able to deliver
Pietro fast and late as she did at Brighton over 6 last time.
He ran well enough on soft ground at Epsom last season so if the goinhg eases it should not be too concerning.
3.00 Doncaster: Purosangue
Purosangue hasn’t had anything go right for him this season, racing on unsuitably fast ground on each of his past four starts.
He ran his best race last season when the ground turned in September, finishing second in a York Listed race and with light rain forecast the ground should be more in his favour.
The Andrew Balding-trained gelding looks to have fared well with a high draw and has dropped 9lb in the weights this season.
3.35 Doncaster: Moonjid
Moonjid looks the ideal type for this race and I imagine his shrewd connections have had this novelty in mind since they bought him from the Marcus Tregoning yard during the summer.
The three-year-old is still comparatively lightly raced and looks open to more improvement than all his rivals and certainly looked as though the move to Mick Appleby’s yard had brought him forward on his stable debut this month.
He was only overhauled in the closing stages at Carlisle and the race has already yielded a winner, so it looks a good effort.
Adam Kirby retired relatively recently and I fully expect him to be fired up for this race.
