Top tipster Dave Nevison struck with Calendar Girl (7-2) on Thursday and has another three bets at Doncaster on Friday.
1.15 Doncaster: Promethean
David Menuisier sent this gelding to France for a confidence-boosting win in a maiden at Clairfontaine last time out, and scored nicely by over two lengths.
He will hopefully now be ready to show winning form in a handicap after mixed performances so far. However, all of Promethean’s runs have suggested one thing, and that is this gelding is a stayer who is crying out for a step up to this trip.
The selection has finished well in so many of his races, as well as often meeting trouble in running, so the clues are definitely there, and he races off his lowest mark of the season here. His weight is also lowered further by the 5lb claim of top Northern apprentice Warren Fentiman.
He should have time to sort himself out on this wide, galloping track, and
Promethean shouldn’t meet trouble. I'm hoping he can power home over this extended trip.
2.25 Doncaster: Mission Central
I am hardly going out on a limb tipping an Aidan O’Brien-trained runner in a Group race for two-year-olds, but I do think this one might go off at a reasonable price.
Plenty of people focused on his high head carriage, and slightly ungainly look, in the closing stages of his latest win. However, that was in a Group Three over six furlongs, and I believe he was in control throughout that race plus it was the trip that caused him to tread water close home.
Mission Central possesses fantastic speed and this drop back down to the minimum trip really does look the way to go. He breaks very smartly and I expect him to make all again here.
5.20 Doncaster: Woodstock
Woodstock has only raced over six furlongs on his past two starts, which is a little surprising for a Ruth Carr-trained handicapper. However, the late switch looks as though it may get results.
The five-year-old ran OK on his first start over this distance at Ripon, but stepped up markedly last time out when second behind an Ripon course specialist.
I think he will be really well suited by this less undulating track, and is drawn close to the pacesetter in stall 12, which looks favourable. Hopefully he will crown a good day for Warren Fentiman.
