Darren Bunyan on Curragh weather watch for Hit The Bid

Thu 7 Sep 2017

Darren Bunyan will wait and see how much rain they get at the Curragh before deciding whether to run Hit The Bid in the Derrinstown Stud Flying Five Stakes on Sunday.

Bunyan reports his three-year-old sprinter in tip-top shape but is unlikely to run him in the Group Two over the minimum trip if the ground has a lot of cut in it.

Should that be the case, then the County Kildare handler might wait for the Dubai Airport International Airport Trophy at Newbury on September 23.

Hit The Bid showed he was a young sprinter on the up when finishing a close fourth to Caspian Prince in the Sapphire Stakes over the course and distance in July, after which he was given time off.

"We're very happy with him. The only concern we have is the ground," said the County Kildare handler.

"It is soft there at the minute and there is rain forecast. The ground will be the only thing that stops him from running,

"There's a Group Three at Newbury on the 23rd. The original plan was that he'd run in both races. It's really ground dependent."
