Consent in good shape for mouthwatering Santorini Star rematch

Consent returns to the scene of her finest hour on Thursday seeking further top honours at ParisLongchamp in the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier.
The Sir Mark Prescott-trained four-year-old ended last season reversing Park Hill Stakes form with Doncaster conqueror Santorini Star to storm to Group One glory in the Prix de Royallieu on Arc weekend.
William Haggas’ recent Jockey Club Stakes winner will be in opposition to Consent once again in the French capital, in a contest that will also feature George Scott’s Prix du Cadran hero Caballo De Mar and Simon and Ed Crisford’s Dubai Gold Cup winner Fairy Glen.
“It’s her first run of the year and we just hope she has trained on first and foremost, she has certainly wintered very well,” said Richard Evans of owners Denford Stud.
“She looks better than she ever has done after a winter break and we’re just hoping she can pick up from where she left off last year.
“She knows Longchamp and hopefully will be happy going back there. I see Mr Haggas has his horse running so it will be a bit of a rematch there and hopefully she can put up a good performance.
“She doesn’t necessarily have to win, but as long as she shows she still wants to do it for us we’ll be delighted.”
Consent’s Prix de Royallieu triumph in October had connections pondering a return on the same weekend later this year for a crack at the feature Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe itself.
However, the daughter of Lope De Vega also holds a tantalising entry for the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and by stepping up to a distance just shy of two miles her team could get a clearer guide on which direction to head this term.
“I don’t think going up in trip will be a problem for her and Sir Mark was wondering last year if the Arc trip be a little too sharp for her now,” continued Evans.
“We’ll see how she goes, but I wouldn’t be worrying about her stamina. Maybe it could be a top hat we need, but we’ll take it one step at a time and see how Thursday goes first.”
