Charlie Longsdon mulling Ascot option for Our Kaempfer

Our Kaempfer could head straight to the Cheltenham Festival if Charlie Longsdon decides to bypass an outing in the Reynoldstown Novices' Chase at Ascot.A hugely impressive winner at Kempton last time out, his name was a surprise omission from the entries for the BetBright Chase back over the same course and distance on February 25.Beaten only three lengths in the Pertemps Final at the Festival last March, Longsdon is weighing up a run in the RSA Chase or whether he should stick to handicap company at the big meeting."I just thought the Kempton race came too close to the Festival," said Longsdon."It's a bit tight for him as he's better fresh, so we'll look at the Reynoldstown which is a week earlier."He's got an entry in the four-miler but that is my least favourite option at this stage. It's likely to either be the RSA or the Ultima (Handicap Chase)."I keep looking at the British contenders for the RSA and there isn't a stand-out one, it could be wide open and you only get one chance to run in that whereas he can run in the Ultima for the rest of his life."His run in the Pertemps showed how hard the handicaps are. We thought he was well handicapped and he was, but he just had too much ground to make up. He rattled home and wasn't beaten far but was still only fifth."Last year's Reynoldstown winner (Vyta Du Roc) was rated 145 and he's already 148, so he wouldn't be out of place in an RSA."We might just wait for Cheltenham, we'll see."
