"I think we will see a big showing" - Brown lifts the lid on Wathnan's team

Wathnan Racing enjoyed a fabulous Royal Ascot with five winners across the week and the operation has another stellar cast to go to war with at Glorious Goodwood, particularly on Wednesday where they have six runners, including several favourites. I spoke to Racing Manager Richard Brown on Tuesday afternoon, where he gave me the lowdown on their contenders.

SING US A SONG

Trainer: Ralph Beckett. Jockey: James Doyle
"He's a short price now but he got a slow start at Ascot and then ran on quite well. That race didn't work out but I hope he is going to turn into a progressive handicapper.
"I think we will see a big showing. Ralph seems very happy with him and the ground will be fine."

JASNA'S SECRET

Trainers: Carlos and Yann Lerner. Jockey: James Doyle.
"It is a very competitive race but she will be fine on the ground. I expect her to run well and she is very consistent."
Richard Brown spoke to Nick Luck about Wathnan Racing's buying policy and reflected on a memorable Royal Ascot.

ZELAINA

Zelaina was an impressive debut winner in a race which has worked out well.
Trainer: Karl Burke. Jockey: James Doyle.
"I'm not sure about the ground for her (if there is lots of rain). She is a very fast filly and didn't quite get home at Ascot.
"She jumps, she's out and she's quick into stride and it's a fast five here which will suit. If there was a four-furlong race then I'd be very confident!"

NATIVE WARRIOR

Trainer: Karl Burke. Jockey: Christophe Soumillon.

FINE INTERVIEW

Trainer: Hamad Al Jehani. Jockey: Faleh Bughenaim.

DEFENCE MINISTER

Trainer: Hamad Al Jehani. Jockey: James Doyle.
"If the rain continues to come then Fine Interview will love the ground, as will Native Warrior, Defence Minister probably less so.
"We put headgear on Native Warrior which really sharpened him up and I think that's enabled him to travel. If there is a little bit of give in the ground, I think that will be perfect."
Watch Defence Minister finish second at Sandown earlier this month on his first run over seven furlongs.
