Brilliant Star shines in impressive Yarmouth victory

Brilliant Star more than lived up to her pedigree and her name in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes at Yarmouth.
A daughter of Cracksman out of Star Catcher, both her multiple Group One-winning parents were owned by Anthony Oppenheimer, who bred the filly.
Trained by John and Thady Gosden, Brilliant Star finished second on her only run at two when beaten half a length at Newcastle in November.
Sent off a long odds-on favourite to go one better, the 2-9 chance never looked in any trouble as soon as Robert Havlin sent her into an early lead.
Havlin told Sky Sports Racing: “I don’t think she’s beaten a whole lot and she was always going to improve from two to three.
“She’s by Cracksman out of Star Catcher so she was always going to have plenty of stamina, I rode both of those and when Star Catcher went up in trip the better she was.
“This filly isn’t slow but I think she’s a solid mile and a half filly.
“I made her stretch without being too hard on her and our horses are in flying form so no doubt there’s something more loftier coming up for her.”
Earlier, Archie Watson and Hollie Doyle teamed up to win with their third different juvenile in four days as Siouxperb impressed in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes.
The 4-6 favourite looked green in stages but really responded to Doyle close home to win by four lengths.
“That was impressive as he’s a bit of a shell and a bit weak still so for him to have done that is pretty promising,” said Doyle.
“He was green in the final furlong under pressure but that’s fair enough, it’s pretty lonely up front.
“It’s looks great going forward, we’ll look to get him some more experience.
“We’ve had four two-year-old runner, three winners and one placed so it’s nice to get the first batch out then you know where you are at.”
