Bowens can dominate Market Rasen on Saturday

Bowens can dominate Market Rasen on Saturday

The surname Bowen has been synonymous with the big summer jumping meets at Market Rasen for a long time. Trainer Peter, and for a few seasons his elder son Sean, have flown the flag but there is a new kid on the block now.
The 10lbs that young James is claiming on his father’s runner Wadswick Court in the Betfred Summer Plate Handicap Chase might make this horse a winner, rather than a perennial runner-up, as has been the case recently.
Rain is forecast at Market Rasen, which will help Wadswick Court as he clearly lacks pace but sticks on well in his races. He will feel as though he is loose off his weight of 10st.
As you would expect for what is one of the features of the summer jumping season, competition is strong but the handicapper has had time to assess all the recent winners so it is difficult to spot one that has massive potential upside.
Stable companion Earthmoves, ridden by Sean Bowen, has to be a threat as is Viens Chercher who represents the bang in-form Brian Ellison.
Kapstadt has been improving on the Flat recently and the seven-year-old gelding has gone up the weights accordingly. I do not know whether it is the rise that has caused his trainer Ian Williams (along with Ellison one of a declining band of top dual purpose trainers) to switch him back to Jumps for the £35,000 Betfred TV Summer Handicap Hurdle at 2.10.
Whatever the reason he could win this race, which looks much less competitive than when he was 17th in the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, and his mark has dropped 3lbs. Kapstadt is one that will not want buckets of rain, so it might be worth checking the forecast, which is changeable at the time of writing.
Sticking with National Hunt, I am putting up Beeno to win a disappointingly small field in the lady riders handicap hurdle at Cartmel.
I went in on this one a couple of starts ago, and then watched him win last time out at a bigger price when I wasn’t on! I am hoping he is now in the winning habit and can kick on. He certainly has a capable rider in Emma Sayer, who knows Cartmel well.
Dave Nevison's Saturday tips:
2.10 Market Rasen: Kapstadt
3.20 Cartmel: Beeno
3.20 Market Rasen: Wadswick Court
