Angus McNae's Friday tips at Meydan: four best bets

This five-year-old has plenty in his favour in this competitive handicap. He is back down to a rating of 78, and he thrashed a decent field at Chester last summer off this mark, plus is well drawn in stall two. He also has the assistance of Silvestre de Sousa, the champion jockey in the UAE last season. 

Add to that a decent second at Abu Dhabi before Christmas and you have a contender with a decent profile for this contest. 

Simon and Ed Crisford have their horses in good form, and it is an interesting move to run this quirky, but talented, individual on the dirt. 

He produced a career best following a wind operation at Newcastle last time out, and should he take to the dirt, he is well treated off a rating of 90.

He also has plenty of pace, and can make the most of that from stall two. He should go well here under James Doyle. 

This Charlie Appleby-trained gelding should be far too good for his rivals here. 

He won the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury last season in a fast time, and then finished third on QIPCO British Champions day in the new two-year-old conditions race. 

That is easily the best form on offer, and he can land a race that Charlie Appleby has won for the past two years.

Sound Money takes a drop in grade into handicap company for his seasonal reappearance after contesting tough graded contests on both starts last year. 

He ended the season finishing an excellent fifth in the Grade Two Burj Nahaar where he showed plenty of speed. He will look to dominate this field from stall two, and with the Bhupat Seemar team in good form, he can make a winning return.
