2.55 YORK: BINHAREER
Finishing Speed Percentage form: 12231 (past 5 starts)
Final furlong at York: 12.45sec (next highest 12.75sec)
William Haggas strike rate at York in past year: 28.89% (13 from 45)
Binhareer signed off last season with an emphatic victory over course and distance and can pick up where he left off. He was only 16th after a furlong that day, but then reeled off five successive fast furlongs to breeze clear.
The grey was the first three-year-old to win that contest in 14 years, and did so with bags to spare. Tom Marquand said afterwads how much the colt had matured and strengthened through the year.
He’s gone up 10lb in the ratings but should do even better as a four-year-old and has a favourable single-figure draw. The front-runners drawn in stalls 2, 3, 4 and 7 can tee things up for him.
Binhareer is entered in next month's Group One Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and the sprinting division is crying out for new faces. Be365 make him 13-2 for Wednesday's race and offer six places, while he's 66-1 to strike at the highest level about a month from now.
3.30 YORK: COOL HOOF LUKE
Win strike rate: 50% (3/6) Oisin Murphy strike-rate on him: 75% (3/4)
Final 2f in Gimcrack: 11.04sec & 12.21sec
Cool Hoof Luke had three subsequent Group One winners behind when winning the Gimcrack in 2024, including Big Mojo, when fastest through each of the final two furlongs.
He missed last season but zestfully made all in Listed company over seven furlongs at Wolverhampton in early March. He was only fifth fastest through the final furlong that day and reverting to sprinting should show him in an even better light. The general 9-1 looks fair.
Having had only six starts, he's much less exposed than the opposition. Big Mojo is 5lb worse off for the rematch.
4.05 YORK: LEGACY LINK
Final 2f at Haydock: Of 592 runners in our database, she was 29th fastest despite being eased
Highest Ever Speed: 40.94mph. Time Index of Fillies’ Mile: 8.3 out of 10 (fast)
Legacy Link’s uncle is none other than Frankel and she did her best to impersonate him when making all over a mile at Haydock in September. She completed the final two furlongs in 23.44 seconds despite still being green.
There are 73 mile winners at Haydock in the RaceiQ database and, when it comes to the final quarter mile,
Legacy Link ranks sixth best despite being green and eased down. The top five includes
Bow Echo and
Zeus Olympios.
She subsequently finished a keeping-on fourth in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket, rallying to be faster than all bar the winner in the final furlong after getting a bit lost in the Dip.
Stepping up to ten furlongs seems sure to suit, with the Gosden yard having landed this prize seven times since 2011. She's a general 11-8 to score on Wednesday, and 8-1 for Classic glory at Epsom.
