Nic Doggett provides a race-by-race guide to Thursday's action at York, with World Pool in operation for the full card. As a collaboration of global Totes,
World Pool enables bettors from all over the globe to bet into a single pool, the result being enormous liquidity, and a multi-million pound betting experience. Due to the dynamic nature of the pool, customers can receive higher pay outs than they would receive with bookmakers. In the UK, the Tote operates Tote Guarantee which means the UK and Irish pools will always match or exceed the industry Starting Price (SP) on Win bets.
Race 1 - Sky Bet Lowther Stakes (Group 2)
Three of the last 11 winners of this 1200m (6f) contest ran in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot; two won, while Living In The Past was a close third in 2019. This year's winner MOONRISE looks underestimated as she has only been beaten by one horse in her three starts and the third from Ascot – Velozee – has since been placed in a Group One. Eleven of the last 15 winners were successful on their previous start, so she ticks that box, too. Hot favourite Libertango was two lengths ahead of Ruby Moon when second at Newmarket last month and sets the form, but looks short enough in the market, while Star Of State showed promise on her debut behind the re-opposing Livenka (twice a winner since) and then looked a potential superstar at Leopardstown, but faces a much tougher test here.
Watch: Will the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes be a key piece of form?
Race 2 - Harry's Half Million By Goffs
Half of the last 12 winners of this valuable 1200m (6f) sales race won last time out, but no winner since the race's inception had already won a Group race which counts against favourites Tokaido and Sun Goddess, though the latter's class puts this Phoenix Stakes winner well clear on ratings. However, her only defeat came in a big field at Royal Ascot, where she seemed a little outpaced at a crucial time, and there's a slight question mark over whether this speedier track will suit. Clive Cox has won the last three renewals (including for owners Middleham Park Racing last term) and his unbeaten SATELLITE OF LOVE – whose Newbury win is working out very well – can secure another big payday for connections.
Race 3 - Sir Kevin Sinfield 7 In 7 Grand Finale Handicap
A 1600m (8f) handicap in which ETERNAL FORCE is fancied to bounce back in first-time blinkers. He shaped well in defeat and had another break before his next start at Hamilton, where he narrowly failed to reel in the front-running Diego Ventura (who has since run a career-best in a Goodwood conditions race). A strongly-run race on decent ground around a bend are his ideal conditions (his dam won over a mile at Thirsk) so this race should be a perfect fit; his trainer should know, having won it in 2009, 2020 and 2025, including with Bullet Point who returns to defend his crown from a very similar mark. The lightly-raced Centigrade could be anything, but this looks a tough handicap debut, so the more experienced trio of Point Lynas, The Lost King and Mezcala could prove bigger dangers.
Watch: Johanna Walsh will renew rivalry with several she beat in the Irish Oaks Race 4 - Legends Global Yorkshire Oaks (Group 1)
Twelve of the last 17 winners of this 2400m (12f) Group One won on their preceding start which narrows the field down significantly - including last year's winner Minnie Hauk who has not been at her best this term and has lots to find with King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Kalpana. The Andrew Balding-trained mare is the one to beat on that form, but her best efforts have come at Ascot, and she looks short enough in the betting on the back of that tough race. Three-year-olds – who receive plenty of weight from their older rivals at this time of year – have won 10 of the last 12 renewals, and preference is for the very progressive Irish Oaks winner JOHANNA WALSH whose defeat of Inis Mor, Sparan Nua, Earth Shot and Legacy Link (in that order) looks very solid form.
Race 5 - British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes
Any rain would suit Oaks fourth A La Prochaine in this 2400m (12f) listed contest, but fellow three-year-old WITHOUT PREJUDICE looked an exciting prospect when beating a previous winner on debut at Newmarket and this half-sister to Emily Upjohn should only improve for this longer distance. She probably beat much more than 13-length winner Summerson did last time, though it would be no surprise to see the last-named run a big race. Morrophore, who could easily have gone to the paddocks after her win in January, looks the pick of the older horses ahead of course winner Rhapsody whose Group Three second to the progressive Moody reads well in the context of this race; her dam stayed this trip well so it should be within range.

Race 6 - Mews Hotel Ossett EBF Stallions Nursery Handicap
The step back up to 1400m (7f) should help Goodwood winner REVELS negate a rise in the weights and he's fancied to see off Rising Tiger whose handicap mark looks attractive based on his Ascot second to subsequent Vintage Stakes winner Dr Rascal. Mia Fantasia - who was third that day at Ascot - would have finished much closer when only sixth (behind The Ginger Kid and Caeruleus) at Goodwood last time but for meeting lots of trouble in running, and the betting that day suggested his turn won't be far away. There's lots more to come from Doncaster winner Weleyff, so he looks the pick of the hat-trick-seekers, while Mirzimaan, who was an unlucky loser at Newcastle, is from the family of Battaash and rates a big danger on his handicap bow.
Race 7 - British EBF Fillies' Handicap
Last year's winner ROYAL VELVET gets the nod in this 1400m (7f) handicap. She has now won nine of her 24 starts and the 5lb claim of Conor Whiteley will come in useful as she bids to bounce back from a fifth at Goodwood where she got going too late in a race dominated by prominent racers. Ed Bethell places his horses very well, so a better effort is also anticipated from Oolong Poobong, while this is a much more suitable task for Albaydaa than the listed race she contested at Carlisle in June. Along with Secret History, she leads a strong three-year-old ensemble that includes handicap debutante Starlight Lass and Tryst, both of whom are chasing hat-tricks in a tough race.
