World Pool will return to action for the first three days of York’s Ebor Festival, which features last year’s IFHA top-ranked race, the G1 International Stakes, as well as two other Group 1 contests.
Wednesday’s International Stakes will see a rematch between the Eclipse winner and runner up, Delacroix and Ombudsman, and like last year has attracted an international field, with runners from Ireland, France and Japan joining the home contingent.
All 21 races across the three days at
York will be globally commingled via World Pool, including the G1 Yorkshire Oaks on Thursday and the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes – also IFHA Top 100 races – the following day.
For the first time this year, two races on Hopeful Stakes Day at Newmarket will join York’s action on Nunthorpe Stakes Day to form a nine-race composite World Pool card.
Riders at York and Newmarket will have the chance to score points, determined by World Pool win odds, in the World Pool Jockeys’ Championship which is currently led by Oisin Murphy on 134.70 points, ahead of Richard Kingscote (91.75) and Kieran Shoemark (89.80). Whoever is top following the final World Pool race in the UK & Ireland at British Champions Day on 18 October will receive £50,000 to donate to a charity of their choice.
Last year’s International Stakes winner, City Of Troy was chosen as a World Pool Moment of the Day, and subsequently won via public voting to be crowned the 2024 World Pool Moment of the Year. This year again there will be a World Pool Moment of the Day winner chosen on each of the three days at York, with winning grooms receiving a cheque for £4,000, and a chance to win the 2025 Moment of the Year with the prize of a VIP trip for four.
Betting on all 23 races will be available to punters in 26 jurisdictions, with seven World Pool bet types – Win, Place, Quinella, Quinella Place (Swinger), Forecast (Exacta), Tierce (Trifecta) and Treble (pick the winner in three selected races) – on offer from York and the same bet types apart from the Treble available from Newmarket.
Sam Nati, Head of Commingling at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, said: “York’s Ebor Festival features some truly top-quality racing, a fact highlighted by last year’s International Stakes being the LONGINES IFHA’s top-ranked race, and we’re delighted to see the contest attract an intriguing field of international runners once again.
“There’s quality action across all three days at York and it’s exciting to be further strengthening our offering by adding two races from Newmarket.”
