Winx leaves it late as she racks up 19th straight win at Randwick

Australian star Winx notched up her 19th successive victory with a late charge in the Group Two Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick.
The Chris Waller-trained mare had given her supporters a scare when coming from well off the pace to win the Warwick Stakes at the same track last month, and she once again was some way back in early stages of this mile contest.
With a furlong to run, Red Excitement still had a clear advantage but Winx was just hitting top gear for jockey Hugh Bowman and she eventually poked her head in front in the last half-furlong to win by a length at the post.
Bowman admitted he had been concerned during the race, but hailed Winx's "incredible" performance.
He said: "At the top of the straight I wasn't worried last start, but today I really was. What she did today was incredible, I mean everything she does is incredible, but I'm lost for words."
Winx was sent off the 1-11 favourite for the race and her unbeaten run now stretches back to May 2015 and includes two Cox Plates among a host of Group Ones.
Waller is now looking towards the George Main Stakes back at Randwick in two weeks.
"We might skip a race somewhere along the way, but I doubt it will be the George Main,'' Waller told www.dailytelegraph.com.au.
"I'd like to get a Group One on the way this preparation and work out where we go from there."
Winx is now level with Australian greats Desert Gold and Gloaming on 19 successive wins, but is still six behind Black Caviar, who retired unbeaten in 25 starts.
