Wednesday tips: Harry Allwood's best bets at Taunton

Fingers crossed Taunton passes a precautionary inspection at 7.30am on Wednesday morning! Variable forecasts are predicted, but the track is currently raceable, and hopefully temperatures do not get too low during the night.

If racing does go ahead, the fixture will be one of two meetings live on Racing TV, with the other being Kempton during the evening. I've managed to find a couple of selections for the action at Taunton, and both look to hold a strong chance. 

They're not the biggest prices, I'm afraid, but I struggled to make a case for one at chunkier odds on Wednesday. Best of luck.

This daughter of Derby winner Workforce hasn't won a race in five starts under rules yet, but the point winner has shown plenty of promise on each occasion, and she won't need to improve much from her chasing debut to get off the mark on Wednesday. 

Warren Greatrex's mare endured an absence of 612 days prior to making her rules debut, and looked a work in progress on each of her outings over hurdles last season. She also travelled nicely into contention before not finding as much as expected under pressure on a few occasions, so it was no surprise to see she was given a wind op ahead of her chasing, and seasonal, debut at Hereford in December.

However, after racing exuberantly, she stayed on quite nicely towards the finish there plus wasn't given the hardest time under pressure. It was certainly an eye-catching effort, which she should also strip fitter for. 

She remains unexposed and ran well on soft ground twice last season, so conditions should be fine for her, and further improvement is surely on the horizon.

Despite a 3lb higher mark now, it will be disappointing if she can't build on her chasing debut and go close here.

Looked to have a bright future when landing a bumper on his rules debut last season, despite racing keenly, and was pitched into Grade Two company at Aintree on his third outing, which is a positive sign of the regard his connections hold him in.

He finished placed on his first two outings over hurdles this season before bolting up on his handicap debut over course and distance last time out off a rating of 112.

The six-year-old travelled powerfully and made all en route to a comfortable victory, and although this is a stronger contest, a repeat of that performance should see him prove hard to beat again, providing this race doesn't come too soon.

The Philip Hobbs & Johnson White team have been operating at a strike-rate of 39 per cent in the past fortnight (seven winners from 18 runners), which is another positive, and Tom Doniphon won on soft ground last year.
