Wednesday tips: Dave Nevison shares his three best bets

Buzz Icelcear was clear fancied to go well when stepped up in trip on his handicap debut last time out as he went off at just 13-2 compared to the massive odds he had been sent off in novice events. 

Mark Walford stepped him up by almost a mile in trip and the five-year-old clearly benefitted, showing he had deep reserves of stamina. 

He also showed a determination to withstand a challenge, digging in to win by a neck. A 5lb rise looks tough enough for a narrow victory but Buzz Iceclear can improve past it.

Spadestep has already won a point-to-point and after two narrow hurdle defeats he bolted up at short odds at Hexham in October. 

His future is as a chaser, however, and he showed distinct promise even though getting beaten on his debut at Aintree recently. 

It is a bold step introducing a novice at the Mildmay course, but Spadestep jumped like an old hand 

He only needs to make regular progress to land this modest handicap. The tongue strap for the first time is an interesting move and a positive indicator 

Rebecca Menzies had a double at Sedgefield on Monday, so her yard is clearly in decent form. And in Lihyan she has a gelding who seems to be performing well at a higher level than last season. 

He is only 2lb higher than when he won at Huntingdon last season and should be spot on after his two recent placed efforts. 

He goes well for 5lb claimer William Maggs and also scored over this course and distance last season. 

A fast pace would suit him ideally but while it is not obvious where that is going to come from, I still think the gap between the last two hurdles and long run in at Market Rasen should help him show his best form.
