3.13 Catterick: Flying Scotsman
Flying Scotsman began his time with Ben Haslam running off a mark of 86 in the summer of 2023 but that mark proved way too high and he he had tumbled to 56 by the time he scored on the all-weather at the end of January.
He seems to have found a level of consistency and has subsequently run two good races off 4lb higher. He is back on turf and last ran on this surface rated 81, when running creditably, so if his run of form transfers to the grass he could well be particularly well in for what is a modest staying handicap.
The reapplication of blinkers may well have gone some way to revitalising him. They are retained here over his ideal trip.
4.13 Catterick: Beltane
I hit the crossbar a couple of times with Beltane in the second half of last season but he ran well enough to think there is a win coming.
Mark Walford has dropped him into a handicap grade way lower than those he was running in last term and Beltane should have a class edge over most of his rivals.
Many of these horses run often at Catterick and several like to make the running but Beltane looks to have fared well with the draw in stall 3 and I expect him to be able to hold a prominent position.
The 7f trip is ideal and Beltane has run well on good to firm in the past.
5.20 Catterick: Dapperling
This filly’s two best runs last season came after returning from a break, including when she finished third at Wolverhampton after a 211-day break on her return.
Dapperling is 10lbs lower hereand has another 3lbs off her back courtesy of her useful apprentice Alec Voikhansky who was on board when she broke her maiden.
This trip of just short of 6f should suit her very well and this looks the time to catch her.
