2.32 Pontefract: LETMESEETHECOLTS
She looks well up to winning a race in this grade this season.
Last time, Letmeseethecolts was upped to 0-70 company for the first time and probably ran her best ever race in a competitive 18-runner field on Lincoln day at Doncaster. She has been raised a couple of pounds for that run but has plenty in her favour here and I think she can go one better.
Letmeseethecolts has been steadily improving from a very low base and the step back up to a mile and a half will definitely suit her.
Brian Ellison's four-year-old filly is drawn close enough to the rail in stall 5 and should be able to sit on the quarters of the low-drawn pacesetters.
3.32 Pontefract: VENTURA EXPRESS
If Ventura Express can hold his position from stall 1 (a big advantage at Pontefract) then he is well-handicapped enough and fit enough this time to land another course success.
He reappeared at Newcastle recently after five months off and ran an excellent second, looking perhaps as if the race was needed when just failing to overhaul fitter rivals after being prominent throughout. He won here in the spring of last season, and now races off a mark just 1lb than for his latest win.
Trainer Paul Midgely is the epitome of a streaky trainer and hasn’t had a winner for a while, but he has had a few placed at very big prices so I am hoping he is about to hit form with this consistent eight-year-old.
4.25 Carlisle: LOOKING SPLENDID
He has been a beaten favourite the last twice but he has given his best and, off the same mark and in his correct grade, he can finally land one here.
Looking Splendid has been running consistently well recently and would definitely have added another placed effort to his form figures but for falling at the final hurdle last time.
He doesn’t possess too much in the way of ability, but this consistent performer stays on well in his races and the stiff Carlisle finish will suit him very well indeed.
