Betting expert Dave Nevison has three midweek fancies for the Jump action at the Newbury.
2.25 Newbury: Moulins Clermont
This is the best 0-120 grade handicap I can remember seeing in a while and certainly looks a race that will yield winners.
Moulins Clermont has raced twice over Newbury’s chase course this season and certainly seemed to benefit from his previous experience when stepped up in trip last time.
He should be spot on after those two runs and the handicapper might have been generous in keeping him on the same mark after his good runner-up effort.
The soft ground will not be a concern, and he may represent better value than some who have been raised considerably for success in lower grades.
3.00 Newbury: Norn Iron
This seven-year-old was backed into favourite on his first run for Harry Derham last time and though he didn’t win he showed plenty enough to suggest young maestro Harry Derham will be winning races with him.
Norn Iron has been quickly switched to handicaps which looks a smart move given he has been given a mark of 107 to start off with.
He will likely improve when stepped up in trip but certainly looks capable of winning over the minimum trip at a stiff track such as Newbury, especially with several front runners in the field guaranteeing a decent pace.
4.08 Newbury: Job
Job is a massive horse who will surely be much better suited to the galloping Newbury track than when whizzing around Southwell last time.
The six-year-old seemed well suited by the step up to this 3m last time and beat a useful and progressive rival after the lead changed a few times.
The handicapper has raised him only 3lb for that game victory, which looks generous. I do not anticipate the softer ground being an issue.
