Wednesday racing tips: Dave Nevison has three fancies

Bathgate was not particularly well handicapped when he started out for Phil Kirby back in the summer but he’s slipped 10lb in four runs and is probably a fitter model now, too. 

He ran off 91 last time when finishing a good second in a similar grade event over Wednesday’s course and distance. He was beaten just half of length after not enjoying the best of runs up the straight. 

If that was a signal that he is back to his best novice hurdle form, then he clearly has a solid chance here. 

Follow Charlie gradually improved throughout last season and scored twice over course and distance once stepped up to this trip and moved into handicaps. 

He was dropped back to the minimum trip for his reappearance and considerately handled to finish seventh but showed enough to suggest he can win a race or two this season. 

The yard looks in decent form (when you strip out the massive outsiders) and Follow Charlie has dropped a couple of pounds in the weights for this. Back overa track/trip he demonstrably enjoys; I expect him to go well. 

The eye is drawn to the Gosden and Haggas-trained fillies in this modest all-weather handicap, but Enola Grey was in good form in November and December last season and certainly signalled her turn was coming around again with a decent effort last time out. 

She progressed all last term once joining Gemma Tutty, winning four times and being tried in Listed company which proved a step too far. 

However, she has dropped 5lb from her highest mark for this and was only beaten 1½ lengths last time. She is versatile regards trip.
